ODR 2022 Panellist Profiles

Stephen Dowling, CEO of TrialView will be speaking at ODR 2022, The 21st International Online Dispute Resolution in Dublin.

Stephen Dowling is a highly experienced trial lawyer and founder of TrialView, a digital disputes platform that streamlines the virtual and hybrid hearing process. With over 18 years of experience in commercial and civil litigation and an MA in Commercial Law from Cambridge University.

Stephen’s expertise and innovative approach to dispute resolution have earned him a spot as one of the speakers at ODR 2022, The 21st International Online Dispute Resolution Forum, which will be held in Dublin, Ireland, from May 3-5, 2022. His presentation is sure to be insightful and informative, and attendees will gain valuable insights into the future of online dispute resolution.

 

Law Commission Consultation: Review of the Arbitration Act

Earlier this year, the Law Commission published their Consultation paper which explores potential reforms to the Arbitration Act 1996.

The Act is being assessed due to the exponential growth of London-based arbitration since it came into force, and also, due to a need to modernise sections of the legislation. A public consultation event, co-hosted by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIARB) and the Law Commission, took place on 29th November 2022, with a brief overview set out below.

One section of the Law Commission summary provisionally concludes that the Act is compatible with the use of modern technology and allows for remote hearings and the use of electronic communication, document management and evidence presentation however, consultees are asked whether the Act has the potential to expressly empower an arbitral tribunal to order remote hearings and the use of electronic documentation.
